Free Photo Gallery Software (PHP, AJAX, Ruby on Rails)

PHP-based Photo Gallery Software

Gallery

Gallery is the classic free PHP photo album program for web sites. If you don't have a database on your server you can use Gallery 1. Gallery version 2 requires a database. The Gallery web site has a full list of requirements. Gallery can also be integrated into several content management systems, including Drupal.

Coppermine Photo Gallery

Coppermine is another popular PHP-based photo gallery software. Server requirements for Coppermine can be found here.

Plogger

I haven't tried Plogger yet, but it looks promising. It is PHP/MySQL based.

PhotoStack

PhotoStack is a free GPL-licensed photo gallery program written in PHP. It does not require a database. It is based on Singapore.

ZenPhoto

Zen Photo is another simple PHP-based photo gallery. It requires MySQL.

Gallery Thingy

Gallery Thingy is a very simple PHP script that will help you put some images on a web site. It doesn't require a database.

Ruby on Rails & AJAX Photo Galleries

Gullery is a Ruby on Rails & AJAX powered photo gallery. A list of Ruby on Rails photo gallery projects can be found on the Ruby on Rails Wiki.

Easy AJAX Photo Gallery Scripts

Lightbox.js version 2 is a great set of scripts that allows you to make a simple AJAX-powered photo gallery.

Pyxy is a free AJAX-powered gallery licensed under the GNU GPL. It uses lightbox.js, mentioned above.

MiniShowcase is a free AJAX-powered photo gallery. No database required. The full server requirements can be found here.

TripTracker.net has an AJAX-based photo gallery script that you can use on your own web site.

If you are a fan of clever CSS, check out Suckerfish Hoverlightbox that combines Suckerfish, Hoverbox, and Lighbox into an interesting photo viewing solution.

A longer list of AJAX-related photo gallery and slideshow scripts can be found here.

jAlbum — Java-based, runs on desktop

Want an easy way to make static HTML or Flash-based photo galleries? Try a free Java program called jAlbum. You can easily make online photo galleries with this program, or use it to make a photo gallery to put on a CD for friends and family. There is a list of features here. If you are interested in Flash-based photo galleries, try a jAlbum skin called BananAlbum.

Drupal Photo Gallery Modules

Drupal has a selection of image gallery modules, including a module for Lightbox2, and Gallery 2, both mentioned above. See the Drupal bikini photo gallery tutorial for more information.

WordPress Photo Gallery Plugins

WP-plugins.net has a great list of photo gallery plugins for WordPress. (Click on the link that says "Media".)

If you know of other good photo gallery software, leave a comment below.

Easy Ajax Album

Try my new Easy Ajax Album (example site). It's all in a single index.php file so installing it is as easy as copying a file. Lots of features, a smooth user interface, and it looks good!

free photo gallery software

I'm looking for the same thing. Gallery and Coppermine are not exactly what I am looking for. Plogger is single-user.

Drupal can be configured to build a community photo gallery, but it takes some work.

Joomla might have some plugins with that functionality, but I'm not very familiar with Joomla.

Joomla are more gallery

Joomla are more gallery component like easygallery on http://www.joomla-addons.org/components/easy-gallery/easy-gallery.html .
Joomla are the best solution for this case.
