Django

The Django Book - Free Online Version

Tags:

A version of the Django Book has been launched online. Unfortunately, as of today it only has two chapters. I'm looking forward to reading it.

I really like Django, and Python in general, but it still needs more documentation. Once Django reaches version 1.0 and books are released I think that it will really take off.

Django: Web Application Framework (or Guitar Genius?)

Tags:

I'm a guitarist who got into computers by accident. My main guitar interests are Brazilian guitar, classical, jazz, and traditional flamenco.

It was interesting to find a Web application framework called Django, that was named after the guitarist. Although I don't play steel-stringed guitar and don't use a pick, I really like "Gypsy jazz" and would like to learn this style of guitar playing. Below are some video clips of the master himself, Django Reinhardt, playing guitar.

Why is Django considered such a good guitar player?

First, note that his left hand only has two working fingers. His hand was severely damaged in a fire when he was younger, and it is baffling how he managed to play like he did.

Listen to his phrasing, and complete mastery of improvization across chord changes. He created an entire genre of guitar playing.

Snakes and Rubies: Presentations on Django and Ruby on Rails

Snakes and Rubies is a video of two great presentations about Django and Ruby on Rails by Adrian Holovaty (Django) and David Heinemeier Hansson (Ruby on Rails).

I especially liked the presentation that Adrian Holovaty gave on Django, a Python-based web application framework.

If you haven't watched it yet, check it out. The full video below is 3 hours long, but you can watch individual segments at Google Video.
