MSPlinks.com - MySpace Adds Redirects to Outgoing Links?

Find MySpace Layouts. Looking for a way to build more links to your Web site? I recommend using SEO software called SEO Elite. Watch a demonstration video and see how it works. Or if you are looking for more MySpace friends, try the powerful FriendBlasterPro MySpace software.

It looks like MySpace is starting to add redirects to outgoing links placed in profile comments.

The redirects go through a domain called msplinks.com. They are 302 redirects.

It doesn't seem to affect old links that were placed in comments, only new ones.

There is no information in Google about msplinks.com, so maybe this is the first post about it.

Yahoo has one of the redirect URLs indexed at the moment:

msplinks.com - myspace redirect result in Yahoo

The msplinks.com URLs can be found on just a small handful of sites, possibly from people who have copied & pasted code from MySpace pages. Some examples are this Livejournal post, this other Livejournal post, and AOL Journals page.

If anyone has more news on msplinks.com, please leave a comment below...

UPDATE: I've also written a follow-up post to the msplinks.com story. This other story shows how people bypass msplinks. See the hidden text on msplinks.com.

mpslinks spells trouble

So great, MySpace is protecting us from spammer evil, but what happens when this protection silences the ones its trying to *protect*. Suddenly, I'm unable to link to my own blogspot.com page in my own Profile without this stupid redirection to msplinks (bringing one back to the myspace homepage)... i've scoured the internet for help but there is none, and no reply from MySpace Help yet. In laymen's terms, this completely sucks. Bad form MySpace, bad form!!! -- one seriously pissed-off html'er

Blogger and other external links being blocked: Solution!

Unfortunately this new Msplinks.com scheme also blocks links to legitimate sites not deemed to be "spam", including any blogger site. Fortunately I've found a way around this new form of MySpace censorship, full code and details at: http://rufuswhite.blogspot.com/2007/06/more-myspace-censorship-and-how-to-get.html

Hope this helps anyone in the same situation.
Rufus

I only find with this

I only find with this msplinks is that it's another way for Tom to spam us with all his paid advertisements.
Have you turned off your popup blocker, well if so you will know what I mean.
Besides myspace was a great way to learn some html code for beginners.

Now the way it is....
learn more about myspace codes--send $9.95
hah another spam site of myspace
OR
Get this anti-virus software--send $29.95
Hah
Myspace is getting greedier by the day..

msplinks.com

It's probably only a matter of time before they block that also.

Best solution is to abandon MySpace... The world will be a better place when it's gone.

Same problem!

I can't believe that myspace won't let us link to our blog!!! AHH! THIS IS SO FRUSTRATING!

If you want to be able to

If you want to be able to actually see the links before you click on them I wrote a small greasemonkey script to decode them in your browser. You can read about it at http://www.smert.net/2007/07/01/myspace-filters-all-external-links-now/

Great

"Besides myspace was a great way to learn some html code for beginners."

That's all we need ... another generation of newbs who know just enough HTML to be dangerous.

Dangerous MSPlinks.com redirects

MSPlinks.com redirects withhold information about outgoing links from MySpace users that may lead to increased phishing incidents. Personally, I think these redirects make MySpace a more dangerous place for the average MySpace user. I wrote an article about this that I hope your readers find useful and relevant.

http://socialmedia.ws/blog/myspace-sacrafices-user-safety-to-become-a-content-destination/

myspace support

I actually wrote myspace support about this. Amazingly, they replied. They said that they were aware of the problem and working to get it fixed soon. Of course.. "fixed" is a relative term, so hopefully they give us what we want. If not, I'm just going to make a very small flash file with a 'Click here' message. For every link, I'll just go into the Flash and change the URL to where I want it to go and then embed the flash object anywhere I need a link. They can't redirect those URLs!

Truth: I Never Accepted Tom as a "Friend" from the Start--HAHAHA

I spent many hours over the course of a year designing two random quote generators on my private AOL (paid account). They are two simple pages each with only one link back to MySpace! But the new msplinks have rendered the paths inaccessible from my MySpace page. What is it that’s so threatening? My AOL acct. or the quote generator from Lycos HTML Gear? I’ve emailed their Help Desk 3 times and received the same generic non-answer to my problem. (Their troubled Goth msg. boards are no help either) If they are suggesting that I’m a phisher that’s laughable! I don’t even have “friends” or contact people via MySpace–It’s just a design hobby in my lonely life. But I get the last laugh… MySpace and its paranoid geeks are more pathetic!

Links blocked i think

i can't send messages or add some friends. The links to adding friends are blocked off or something. I just click to its link and says "Page cannot be displayed". My connection is still good but I notice it goes to the "msplinks" URLS. I can't go to msplinks links, it just comes up with a message saying that it cannot be displayed. Someone help...

MSP Links ...

I wonder if they are filtering out sites as well. I posted a link on the bulletin it is not working but at the same time i posted another link with banner that works. Not sure whats happening.

Contact buttons

Myspace has put a navigation bar over my exsisting button links to message, add, block and pictures. Making a new message, add and block is fine, but I don't know how to make one for pictures. Any ideas?
Thanks.

Pictures in private messages

I just noticed yesterday that I can't send mutiple pictures in private messages even from photobucket. The msplink url automatically attaches itself to each picture url and when the recipient tries to open it, the pictures will appear for a split second then disappear.

So what I've been doing is sending it...because unlike comments you don't get a chance to edit your mail messages...then going into my sent bin, clicking forward, sending it to the same person, deleting the msplinks url and resending. Then the pictures work just fine.

This is dumb.

MySpace and MSPlinks

Unfortunately, MySpace is dumb. It's a very dangerous site... best to avoid it completely....

I noticed that my ZoneAlarm

I noticed that my ZoneAlarm immediately puts www.msplinks.com in as a blocked site in the Spy Site Blocking section. That's disturbing. Myspace is just like most other sites that become popular. It starts off great and then the creators become greedier and greedier and start screwing up their site to try and make another buck. I would like some of the links on Myspace to work, but I'm afraid to take msplinks out of my blocked sites since ZoneAlarm deemed it worthy to put it in their Spy Site list.

MySpace Scams

MySpace is a very dangerous Web site. ZoneAlarm should just block the entire MySpace.com Web site.

Cmon!

Hey guys...

Ever heard of URL REDIRECTING SERVICE?!

Try 4ton.com

MySpace is wising up though..

P.S.
99% of the time, those 'tutorials' on MySpace are fake, shitty, and spam

You're a bunch of whiny idiots

Wow. Honestly can't believe how many bloggy HTML hobbyists are on this page and complaining, lol. I'm not a big fan of myspace for the same reason I'm not a Microsoft fan, but they can do whatever they want on their site and doing redirects is a great way to keep Asian forum spammers out of their system. They lose the non-reciprocating inbound links and, along with that, the entire reason to spam Myspace.

Run a business like their's then come back and complain. Better yet, learn a real language then come back and complain, because HTML hoobyists need to stop cluttering the internet with pseudo-geek 'tech talk' when ever they get sandy-vag syndrome.

Umm...anyone ever heard of

Umm...anyone ever heard of th "tab" key. You could use it to navigate from link to link without clicking that horrendous msplinks link box that covers half your profile page. Go ahead, try it...it's free!

Cody, Iwent to your site

Its pretty clean and to the point. you use Dreamweaver?

Blank page or not?

Has anyone else noticed the if you go to the generic msplinks.com you get what looks like a blank white page, but if you notice when you run the mouse over the top left of the loaded page the mouse cursor changes. if you hi-lite the area it reads "myspace.com not a place for spammers." If you look at the code the font color is set to white.

hidden text on msplinks.com

Interesting find... I blogged about it on the msplinks.com hidden text page.

Unable to Link to Fancorps Street Team

Scarlet Kings (Nashville, TN) - (formerly Oval Opus) like other bands have used MySpace as the core of our efforts to promote our music. We have a site that is specifically focused on our grassroots street team activities. We are trying to post a bulletin in MySpace to get our friends to join. Unfortunately, it appears that the following link is being redirected to myspace.com:

http://fancorps.com/scarletkings

Has anyone else experienced this problem or have a workaround?

Bryan
Manager, Scarlet Kings

you are doing it wrong

your blog url is the same as your myspace url except replace www with blog so if your myspace url is www.myspace.com/imanidiot then your blog is at blog.myspace.com/imanidiot it's as easy as that with no redirects.

Webmaster Tips's picture

myspace blogs

I think they are referring to their blogs that are on external sites (not MySpace blogs).

Is anyone here even aware of

Is anyone here even aware of the rupert murdoch purchase or myspace.

Myspace is owneed by FOX.

He now owns MYSPACE AND The Wallstreet Journal.

I'm not going to make political arguments, you decide when you see greed for power for yourself.

Webmaster Tips's picture

myspace Rupert Murdoch

MySpace is crap... Rupert Murdoch owns a lot of sites. To my knowledge, MySpace (Murdoch) also bought Photobucket.

woah...

Being angry that the general public is starting to be a little more computer savvy? Is it lonely up there on your pedestal?

Seriously

If you idiots don't know what you're putting into your myspace, don't fucking put it up! Learn HTML for christ sake.

Lawsuit?

I am having the same issues as most of you here. Myspace has not just blocked links to my site, but when a link to my site is clicked a pop up window refers to my site as "SPAM", "You Almost got phished" and "Viruses are not fun". I find this to be slander and defamatory, and worthy of some legal actions.
They can block links coming out of their site, that is fine. But when they make those claim, they are making slanderous remarks.

Yeah...

I'm not legal expert, but I don't think MySpace has the authority to label other peoples' sites as spam. Does it look like you're losing money from this? I'd be very interested to know how this turns out...
